Licensure and Regulations
When Does My ARRT® CE Biennium Begin and End?
Your Continuing Education (CE) biennium is based on two key factors: your birth month and the year you passed your initial ARRT® certification exam.
- Your biennium starts on the first day of your birth month and ends two years later on the last day of the month before your birth month.
- If you are newly certified, your CE requirement begins on the first day of your next birth month following your initial ARRT® exam.
Example:
If you were born in July and passed your first ARRT® certification exam in May, your CE biennium would begin on July 1 of that same year. Your first reporting deadline would be two years later, by the end of June.
To view your exact biennium dates, log in to your ARRT® account at www.arrt.org.
Can I Repeat a Course I’ve Already Completed?
According to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists® (ARRT®) and the American Society of Radiologic Technologists® (ASRT®), technologists may not repeat the same CE activity within the same biennium.
However, as of January 1, 2016, the ARRT® updated its guidelines to allow technologists to repeat a CE activity in a subsequent biennium (after your current 2-year CE cycle has ended).
RadSeek Education’s Course Repeat Policy
RadSeek Education maintains a secure customer database that tracks all completed courses. If you place an order for a course that you previously completed with us within the past two years, our team will flag the record and contact you before processing the order.
Please note:
- We do not have access to your ARRT® biennium dates
- Our internal system is based on a rolling 24-month window
- It is the technologist’s responsibility to track CE activities completed through all providers and ensure courses are not repeated within the same biennium
To learn more about ARRT®’s course repetition rules, please refer to Section 7 of their Continuing Education Requirements (link to actual page if you prefer).
If I complete more CE credits than required, can I carry them over to my next biennium?
No. The ARRT® and most state radiation control agencies do not allow CE credits to be transferred from one biennium to the next. Any CE credits earned above your 24-credit requirement will not carry over into a future reporting period and should still be documented for your own records.
What should I do if I receive a CE audit from ARRT®?
Receiving an audit is not unusual — it’s simply a request for verification of your CE activity. If audited, you will be asked to submit copies of your certificates of completion along with your completed ARRT® audit form.
The ARRT® may also contact RadSeek Education directly to verify your completed activities. If there are any discrepancies, they will be reviewed and adjusted accordingly.
Important: If you fail to respond to an audit request, your ARRT® certification and registration may be discontinued, and you will be required to go through a reinstatement process. Always contact ARRT® directly for guidance specific to your situation.
What happens if I don’t complete my CE requirements on time?
If you do not fulfill your CE requirements by the end of your biennium, the ARRT® will place your certification in CE Probation status. You will then have six additional months to complete the required credits without penalty.
To return to active status, you must:
- Complete the outstanding CE requirements
- Submit the CE Probation Report Form
- Pay the applicable probation processing fee
Failure to complete your CE during this probationary period may result in suspension or further disciplinary action. Requirements may vary by state — be sure to consult your state licensing board for specific guidelines.
